Why Pet’s Love Ancestry Pet Food

What mom said then still rings true today: We are what we eat. And the same applies to cats and dogs. Eating the appropriate amount of the right stuff is directly linked to animal health and longevity. Eating the right stuff largely means leading with healthy proteins and leaving behind lower-cost fillers (think corn). Bag-to-bowl, bowl-to-mouth, feeding Ancestry provides pets with a satisfying food that includes all of the good—and none of the bad.

Ancestry kibble is super dense with the nutrients that your pet deserves. Our experience is that pets that eat Ancestry get full quicker, with less food. We have heard stories of dogs eating a full cup or two less per day when compared to other brands. Ancestry is packed with energy, plenty of amino acids, and healthy fats to keep coats shiny and bodies full of vitality.

We have also found that Ancestry enjoys a consistently high palatability across all formulas. Easier digestion across diets makes transitioning between formulas easier on your pet. Rotating between diets will not only pique his interest, but it will also expose your pet to even more diverse proteins to keep the digestive system on its A-game. Good just got better.

Our Commitment to Quality

Ancestry uses only all-natural, premium ingredients—no chemicals, no fillers1. Cooked at the right temperature to preserve more of the good stuff, Ancestry gives pets a balanced, crave-worthy and nutritious diet. After our food is cooked, it is extruded at a high pressure to create an exceptionally dense kibble. This process yields a calorically-rich food that contains less air—think buy less, get more.

Why You Love Ancestry: Sourcing & Preparation

We hand select ingredients from wherever we find the raw materials that meet our high standards. Except for a very few items (e.g. Lamb/Venison), all raw materials for Ancestry are sourced from North America, with the bulk coming from the United States2. This means zero from China. It’s a strict selection process that ensures that pets get the best available. This kind of nutritional rigor gets us excited. To see more about where our ingredients are sourced, click here.

The History of Ancestry Pet Food

Ancestry began in 2001 as an entrepreneur with the uncanny idea of baking healthy, pet-safe cookies for a black lab. Soon thereafter, the Sammy Snacks treat line was born in Charlottesville, Virginia. What began in a humble kitchen—lady and dog—quickly found its ways to the city farmers’ market and other local offerings. Onward and upward, this young treat brand next secured regional distribution to independent pet stores in the Mid-Atlantic. And the rest was history.

Almost immediately, it became clear that dogs and cats also deserved a food that offered the same quality and palatability. Driven by a desire to feed more dogs more often, Ancestry Pet Food was born. Fast-forward to today, sales of pet food have raced ahead and make up the lion’s share of the company’s business. In 2015, we officially rebranded as Ancestry Pet Food to better square the company’s name and in 2019 were acquired by Health Extension Pet Care allowing us to leverage their wealth of experience in product development, brand building and worldwide distribution.
